What Are Key Sound Albums?

Traditional keyboard sound is largely determined by switches, keycaps, and keyboard construction. Changing the sound usually means changing the hardware.

Key Sound Albums gives you another option. DarkBeacon adds digital sound effects to your keystrokes through the desktop software, so you can change the character of your keyboard without replacing switches or rebuilding it.

There are two main ways to use it:

• Sound Albums: Apply a complete set of sounds across your keyboard in one click.
• Per-Key Sounds: Assign a specific sound effect to individual keys or groups of keys.

Sound assignments work independently from key mapping, macros, and other keyboard functions.

Apply a Complete Sound Album

A Sound Album is more than one effect repeated across every key. Different key areas can use different sounds to create a more layered typing experience.

Open Key Sound Albums → Preset Sounds, choose the sound style you want, and apply it across your keyboard.

Current preset styles include:

• Switches: Explore keyboard-inspired sounds without physically changing your switches.
• Retro: Bring typewriter and vintage machine-inspired sounds to your desk.

Assign Sounds to Individual Keys

Want only a few keys to sound different? Select the keys you want and assign a sound directly to them.

You can select individual keys or quickly choose groups such as:

• Letters
• Numbers
• F-Keys
• Modifiers
• Arrow Keys

Each sound can be previewed before assignment, so you can listen first and decide where it belongs.

Already have the perfect sound? Upload it directly to your personal sound library.

How to Use Key Sound Albums

1. Connect your DarkBeacon keyboard.
2. Open the DarkBeacon desktop software.
3. Select Key Sound Albums.
4. Choose Preset Sounds, AI Sounds, or My Sounds.
5. Preview the sound you want.
6. Select one or more keys.
7. Choose Assign, or use Apply to All Keys for the entire keyboard.
8. Adjust the volume to your preference.

Does My Keyboard Need a Built-In Speaker?

No. Key Sound Albums works with current DarkBeacon keyboards without requiring a built-in speaker.

The DarkBeacon desktop client plays the key sounds through your computer's system audio output, so keep the client running while using the feature.
