DarkBeacon Codex Mode brings those controls onto the keyboard.
Codex Mode is currently a dedicated feature exclusive to Devil Breaker Print Codex . When enabled through DarkBeacon.AI, Print Codex switches into its dedicated Codex device mode, allowing selected keys to control supported Codex actions directly.
You can manage up to six Agent threads, see their status through RGB lighting, approve or reject requests, fork conversations, navigate Codex, dictate prompts, and send messages directly from the keyboard.
When Codex Mode is turned off, Print Codex returns to its regular keyboard mode, while your saved Codex mappings remain available for the next time you enable it.

What Is Codex Mode?
Codex Mode is a dedicated operating mode built into Devil Breaker Print Codex that turns selected keyboard controls into physical controls for your Codex workflow.
Currently, Codex Mode is exclusive to Devil Breaker Print Codex within the DarkBeacon keyboard lineup.
In its regular mode, Print Codex works as a one-handed TMR magnetic keyboard with features including:

Codex Mode gives the same physical keyboard a second role.
Once enabled, assigned keys use the dedicated Codex control channel instead of their regular keyboard functions. Keys that have not been assigned a Codex action can continue to work as normal keyboard inputs.
This allows Print Codex to become a dedicated left-hand Codex control surface while your right hand stays on your mouse, trackpad, primary keyboard, or editor.
How to Enable Codex Mode
Before getting started, make sure you have:
- Devil Breaker Print Codex connected via USB
- DarkBeacon.AI installed
- The ChatGPT desktop app installed and signed in
1. Open DarkBeacon.AI
Go to Device Center and select Devil Breaker Print Codex.
2. Open Codex Mode
Select Codex Mode from the device menu.
3. Enable Codex Mode
Turn on Enable Codex Mode.
The keyboard will briefly disconnect and automatically reconnect. This is normal because the device is switching operating identities.
Switching Codex Mode on or off does not erase your saved Codex mappings.
4. Configure Your Controls
Select a key on the keyboard layout and assign the Codex control you want, or drag a Codex control directly onto a key.
When you are finished, click Save to Keyboard.

Codex Mode gives Print Codex access to 19 mappable Codex actions, covering Agent threads, navigation, approvals, voice input, and other frequently used interactions.
You decide where those controls live on the keyboard.
A single Codex value can also be assigned to multiple physical keys, allowing you to build the layout around the way you actually work instead of following one fixed configuration.
Control Up to Six Agent Threads
Codex Mode includes six Agent controls designed to correspond to different Codex threads.
Each Agent control can use RGB lighting to show its current status at a glance.

Single Press
Press an Agent key once to focus its assigned thread in the background.
This lets you interact with the selected thread without necessarily bringing the Codex window to the front.
Double Press
Double-press an Agent key to bring the ChatGPT desktop app forward and focus directly on that conversation.
When several Codex tasks are running at once, the RGB indicators help you see which thread is idle, thinking, finished, waiting for input, or reporting an error.
Approve. Reject. Fork. Keep Moving.
Codex workflows often pause at small decision points. Print Codex puts several frequently used Codex controls directly onto the keyboard.

Navigate Codex From the Keyboard
Codex Mode can also use Print Codex's physical control knob and directional controls for navigation.
Control Knob
- Rotate Left: Move to the previous control or option.
- Rotate Right: Move to the next control or option.
- Press: Open or select the highlighted control.
- Press and Hold: Open Codex Micro settings.
Direction Controls
- Up: Switch planning mode.
- Down: Toggle the sidebar.
- Left: Go back.
- Right: Go forward.
These controls give your left hand another way to move through Codex without repeatedly reaching for the mouse.
Speak Your Prompt
Print Codex also supports microphone controls for voice input in Codex Mode.
Press and Hold MIC
Hold MIC while speaking and release the key when you are finished.
Continuous Recording
Double-press MIC to begin continuous recording. Press it again to stop.
Voice input is captured and transcribed through the desktop client.
For users who prefer describing a task instead of typing a longer prompt, voice input provides another way to interact with Codex while keeping the workflow moving.
How Codex Key Mapping Works
DarkBeacon.AI gives you two ways to assign Codex controls to Print Codex.
Method 1: Select a Key
Select a physical key on the keyboard layout, then choose the Codex value you want to assign.
Method 2: Drag and Drop
Drag a Codex control directly onto the desired physical key.
Mapping Rules
- One key holds one assigned value. Assigning a new value to that key replaces the previous one.
- One value can be assigned to multiple keys. For example, you can assign APPR to more than one physical key.
- Controls are not restricted to their original physical group. Knob or directional values can also be assigned to regular keys where supported.
- Right-click to clear an assignment. You can also use the clear control to reset the full mapping.
After configuring your layout, always click Save to Keyboard.
Important: The Keycap Is Not the Command
There is one important concept to understand when using the Print Codex keycap set:
The label printed on a keycap and the actual Codex command are not necessarily the same thing.
Labels such as FAST, APPR, REJ, and FORK are visual labels for command slots.
The actual action associated with each command slot is configured through the Codex desktop environment, while DarkBeacon.AI determines where that Codex value is assigned on the physical keyboard.
In other words, the printed keycap does not permanently lock that physical key to only one Codex command.
Is It Still a Keyboard in Codex Mode?
Yes.
Keys that have not been assigned to a Codex action continue to work as normal keyboard inputs.
Only assigned keys use the Codex control channel.
This lets Print Codex combine standard keyboard input with dedicated Codex controls inside the same physical device.
Codex Mode vs. Regular Keyboard Mode
Print Codex can switch between two different operating workflows.

While Codex Mode is enabled, Codex mappings take priority.
Rapid Trigger, advanced key functions, standard key remapping, and macros do not trigger during Codex Mode.
Turn Codex Mode off and those regular keyboard functions become active again. Your saved Codex configuration remains available for the next time you enable it.

Which DarkBeacon keyboards support Codex Mode?
Currently, Devil Breaker Print Codex is the only DarkBeacon keyboard that supports Codex Mode.

Do I need an additional keyboard plugin to use Codex Mode?
No additional keyboard plugin is required for the current Codex Mode implementation. Configure and enable Codex Mode through DarkBeacon.AI and use it with the ChatGPT desktop app.
Does enabling Codex Mode erase my normal keyboard settings?
No. Switching Codex Mode on or off does not erase your saved Codex mappings. Your configuration remains available when you enable Codex Mode again.
Why does the keyboard briefly disconnect when I enable Codex Mode?
This is normal. Enabling or disabling Codex Mode switches the keyboard's device identity, so it briefly disconnects and automatically reconnects.
Can I still type normally while Codex Mode is enabled?
Yes. Keys without a Codex assignment continue to work as standard keyboard inputs.
Can the same Codex action be assigned to multiple keys?
Yes. One Codex value can be assigned to multiple physical keys.
Can one key have multiple Codex values?
No. Each physical key holds one assigned Codex value at a time. Assigning another value replaces the previous assignment.
Does Rapid Trigger work while Codex Mode is enabled?
No. While Codex Mode is enabled, Codex mappings take priority. Rapid Trigger, advanced key functions, standard key remapping, and macros do not trigger in Codex Mode.
Disable Codex Mode to return to the keyboard's regular configuration.
Do I need to remap everything every time I switch modes?
No. Your Codex configuration is retained when Codex Mode is disabled and becomes available again the next time you enable it.
